This bill mandates the New Jersey Turnpike Authority (NJTA) and the South Jersey Transportation Authority (SJTA) to create and maintain a toll exemption program for certain disabled veterans using the electronic toll collection system (E-ZPass). To qualify for this program, a disabled veteran must own or lease a vehicle that is registered in New Jersey, displays a "Disabled Vet" license plate, and has an active E-ZPass account. The bill specifies that the NJTA and SJTA must approve applications from disabled veterans who meet these criteria.
Additionally, the bill stipulates that disabled veterans must first apply for and receive approval for the "Disabled Vet" license plate before they can apply for the toll exemption program. Once a veteran is approved for the license plate, they can then submit their application for the toll exemption, which the authorities are required to approve if the veteran meets all conditions. The act is set to take effect 90 days after its enactment.
