This bill mandates the Commissioner of Corrections, in collaboration with the Department of Health and Human Services, to conduct a comprehensive study on the quality of health care services provided in correctional facilities. The study aims to identify any gaps in these services and will evaluate several key areas, including the average response and resolution times for health-related concerns raised by incarcerated individuals, the frequency of medical staff visits for pain management and overall patient care, and any discernible deficiencies in the quality of medical services offered.

Upon completion of the study, the Commissioner is required to submit a written report within one year to both the Governor and the Legislature, detailing the findings and offering recommendations for potential legislative action. This initiative seeks to enhance the health care services available to incarcerated persons by addressing existing shortcomings and ensuring that their medical needs are adequately met.
