This bill mandates that public schools serving grades nine through twelve conduct an annual assembly to provide students with age-appropriate information about the United States military. The assembly must last at least 30 minutes and take place in November to align with Veterans Day. The content of the assembly should cover the basic structure of the military and its branches, the contributions of veterans to American society, and details about the Reserve Officers Training Corps (ROTC), United States service academies, and other military involvement.
In addition to the assembly, the bill requires schools to hold a veterans appreciation event each year. This event can take various forms, such as honoring veterans, featuring speeches or presentations by veterans, or participating in educational initiatives that recognize military members. Schools are also required to consult with local veterans associations to help develop the appreciation event. The bill is set to take effect immediately and will apply to the first full school year following its enactment.
