This bill amends current law to allow for a 30-calendar day extension to the existing 60-calendar day cure period for certain businesses to address and resolve violations. Under the current law, a State agency, department, or authority has the discretion to suspend enforcement of monetary fines or civil penalties for first-time violations that do not significantly impact public safety, employee benefits, or the environment. The bill introduces a provision that permits an additional 30-day extension if the agency determines that not granting the extension would be contrary to equity and good conscience.
Additionally, the bill clarifies the definition of "business" as an entity employing no more than 50 full-time employees and outlines specific State employment or labor-related laws that are included under this framework. The act is set to take effect immediately upon passage.
