This bill amends current regulations regarding sports wagering advertisements in New Jersey by updating the required warning language. The new warning states, "Gambling is risky and can become addictive, resulting in catastrophic life consequences. If you or someone you know has a gambling problem and wants help, call 1-800 GAMBLER." This replaces the previous requirement, which only included the phrase about seeking help for gambling problems. Additionally, the bill mandates that this warning be displayed whenever a user opens an Internet site or mobile application that provides access to online sports pools, as well as in all print, billboard, sign, online, or broadcast advertisements related to sports pools.
The bill also maintains the authority of the division to regulate sports pools and online sports pools similarly to casino games, ensuring that operators demonstrate financial stability and integrity. It allows for expedited rulemaking by the division and racing commission to facilitate the implementation of sports wagering at casinos and racetracks. The provisions aim to enhance consumer protection and awareness regarding the risks associated with gambling while ensuring that the regulatory framework remains effective and responsive to the evolving landscape of sports wagering.
