This bill mandates that various health insurance carriers in New Jersey, including hospital service corporations, medical service corporations, health service corporations, individual and group health insurance policies, health maintenance organizations, and state and school employee health benefits programs, provide coverage for the diagnosis and treatment of Pediatric Autoimmune Neuropsychiatric Disorders Associated with Streptococcal Infections (PANDAS) and Pediatric Acute-onset Neuropsychiatric Syndrome (PANS). The coverage must include expenses for prescribed treatments such as antibiotics, medications, behavioral therapies, immunomodulating medicines, plasma exchange, and intravenous immunoglobulin therapy, ensuring that these benefits are provided to the same extent as for any other medical condition under the respective contracts.

The bill specifies that these requirements apply to contracts delivered, issued, executed, or renewed on or after the effective date of the act, which is set for the first day of the sixth month following its enactment. This comprehensive approach aims to enhance access to necessary medical care for children suffering from these specific neuropsychiatric disorders, thereby addressing a critical health need within the state.
