This bill amends existing legislation regarding the display of public awareness signs related to human trafficking. Specifically, it broadens the language requirements for these signs to include not only English and Spanish but also Chinese and Korean. The signs must contain the national, 24-hour toll-free hotline information for human trafficking and must be displayed in various establishments, including strip clubs, bars, airports, and hotels, among others.
Additionally, the bill specifies that the public awareness signs must be at least eight and one-half inches by eleven inches in size and printed in 16-point font. Establishments that fail to comply with these requirements will face civil penalties, starting at $300 for a first offense and escalating to $1,000 for subsequent offenses. This legislation is based on a recommendation from a report by the State Commission of Investigation, aimed at enhancing public awareness and prevention of human trafficking in New Jersey.
