This bill mandates that certain products powered by electric motors and batteries, specifically low-speed electric bicycles, low-speed electric scooters, motorized bicycles, motorized scooters, motorized skateboards, and lithium-ion or storage batteries, must have a red tag attached to their charging cords. The tag must clearly state "UNPLUG WHEN NOT IN USE" and include additional consumer safety information regarding the safe usage of the product and its charging equipment. The tag is required to be affixed near the end of the cord that connects to the electricity source.

Furthermore, the Division of Consumer Affairs in the Department of Law and Public Safety is tasked with posting a model tag that sellers can use and is also responsible for creating rules and regulations to guide the consumer safety information that must be included on the tag. This legislation aims to enhance consumer safety by ensuring that users are reminded to unplug their devices when not in use, thereby potentially reducing risks associated with battery-powered products. The act is set to take effect immediately upon passage.
