This bill mandates that health insurance providers, including hospital service corporations, medical service corporations, health maintenance organizations, and state health benefits programs, must cover scalp cooling systems for patients undergoing cancer chemotherapy. The bill defines a scalp cooling system as any device designed to cool the human scalp to prevent or reduce hair loss during chemotherapy, provided it is intended for repeated use and serves a medical purpose. Coverage for these systems must be equivalent to that of any other medical condition under the insurance contracts.

Additionally, the bill requires physicians to inform patients about the option of scalp cooling therapy before starting chemotherapy treatment and to document this discussion in the patient's medical records. The provisions of the bill will take effect 180 days after enactment, applying to all relevant contracts issued or renewed after that date.
