This bill mandates the appointment of a State Dementia Services Coordinator by the Commissioner of Human Services, who must possess the necessary qualifications through training and experience. The coordinator's responsibilities include developing a master plan to address the impact of Alzheimer's disease and related disorders, coordinating with existing state programs and agencies, facilitating communication and collaboration among service providers, identifying service gaps, and increasing awareness and access to quality care for individuals with dementia. The coordinator is also empowered to request data and assistance from various state departments and consult with experts in the field.
Additionally, the bill requires full cooperation from state departments, offices, divisions, and agencies to support the coordinator's efforts. To fund these initiatives, the bill appropriates $150,000 from the General Fund to the Department of Human Services. The act is set to take effect 90 days after enactment, although the Commissioner may take preliminary administrative actions as needed for implementation.
