This bill authorizes the Chief Administrator of the New Jersey Motor Vehicle Commission (MVC) to issue 250th Anniversary Revolutionary War license plates for motor vehicles registered in the state. The design of the plates will be selected by the chief administrator in consultation with the New Jersey Historical Commission. An application fee of $50 and an annual renewal fee of $10 will be charged, with the proceeds going into a special fund dedicated to supporting and preserving Revolutionary War sites in New Jersey. The bill also stipulates that if the average cost of producing the plates exceeds the application fee in two consecutive fiscal years, the chief administrator may discontinue the program.
Additionally, the bill prohibits the use of state or public funds for the initial costs associated with the license plate program. Instead, the New Jersey Historical Commission or a designated entity must contribute up to $25,000 to cover these costs, and they may also accept private donations. The MVC will not begin the program until the Historical Commission provides the necessary funds and at least 500 completed applications for the plates. The provisions of the bill will not take effect until 13 months after these conditions are met, and the bill will expire if they are not satisfied within 12 months of its enactment.
