This bill amends current New Jersey law to prohibit the operation of unmanned aircraft systems, or drones, in ways that interfere with airports and military activities. Specifically, it establishes that knowingly or intentionally operating a drone in a manner that disrupts the operation of any airport or military operation constitutes a fourth degree crime. This aligns with existing provisions that already classify similar interference with first responders as a fourth degree crime.
Additionally, the bill provides definitions for "first responder" and "military," clarifying the scope of individuals and operations protected under this law. A fourth degree crime in New Jersey can result in penalties of up to 18 months of imprisonment, a fine of up to $10,000, or both. The bill aims to enhance safety and security in critical areas by imposing stricter regulations on drone operations.
