This bill amends current New Jersey law to prohibit the operation of unmanned aircraft systems, or drones, in a manner that interferes with airports and military activities. Specifically, it establishes that knowingly or intentionally operating a drone in such a manner constitutes a fourth degree crime. This aligns with existing provisions that already classify similar interference with first responders as a fourth degree crime. The bill also expands the definition of "military" to include various branches of the armed forces and the National Guard, ensuring clarity in enforcement.

In addition to the new prohibitions, the bill retains existing penalties for fourth degree crimes, which may include imprisonment for up to 18 months and fines of up to $10,000. The legislation aims to enhance public safety by preventing potential disruptions caused by drone operations in sensitive areas, thereby protecting both emergency responders and critical infrastructure. The bill is set to take effect immediately upon passage.
