The resolution designates June 1 of each year as Robert Bob Popovics Day in New Jersey, honoring the legacy of Bob Popovics, who was a dedicated community member and a veteran of the United States Marine Corps during the Vietnam War. Born in Trenton and a longtime resident of Seaside Park, Bob passed away on November 1, 2024, due to injuries from an accident. He was well-known for his generosity, operating the Shady Rest restaurant in Bayville alongside his wife, and for his significant contributions to the fishing community as an avid fly fisherman and master fly tyer.

Bob Popovics was also the founder and CEO of Pop Fleyes, a custom fly tying and educational company, where his innovative fly designs gained recognition. His efforts in the fishing community included organizing meetings that led to the establishment of the Atlantic Saltwater Flyrodders. The resolution acknowledges his numerous contributions to his local community, the fishing community, and the nation, making it fitting to honor him with a dedicated day each year. The Governor is requested to issue a proclamation annually recognizing June 1 as Robert Bob Popovics Day in New Jersey.
