The bill establishes a three-year School Supervisor Mentorship Pilot Program aimed at enhancing the school leadership pipeline across New Jersey by providing support and development for novice supervisors during a one-year mentoring cycle. A novice supervisor is defined as an appropriately certified individual in their first year of a supervisory role. The Commissioner of Education is tasked with developing program guidelines based on established professional standards and partnering with a nonprofit organization that specializes in professional learning and mentoring for school leaders. The program will involve an annual selection of novice supervisors from various school types and regions, ensuring a diverse representation.
Participants in the program will be assigned to groups and are required to meet with a mentor for at least 15 hours during the school year, along with engaging in additional professional learning opportunities. At the conclusion of the pilot program, the Commissioner, in collaboration with the nonprofit partner, will prepare a report evaluating the program's effectiveness and providing recommendations for its future. To support this initiative, the bill appropriates $500,000 from the General Fund to the Department of Education for implementation.
