This bill authorizes the creation of 250th Anniversary Revolutionary War license plates in New Jersey, which will be issued by the Chief Administrator of the New Jersey Motor Vehicle Commission (MVC) upon proper application. The license plates will feature a design selected by the chief administrator in consultation with the New Jersey Historical Commission, including appropriate words or slogans and an emblem representative of the American Revolutionary War. An application fee of $50, along with an annual renewal fee of $10, will be required, with the additional fees deposited into a newly established 250th Anniversary Revolutionary War License Plate Fund. This fund will be used to support and preserve Revolutionary War sites throughout New Jersey.
The bill stipulates that state or public funds cannot be used for the initial costs associated with the license plate program, which includes designing, producing, and publicizing the plates. Instead, the New Jersey Historical Commission or designated entities must contribute up to $25,000 to offset these costs. The MVC will not begin the program until the Historical Commission provides the necessary funds and at least 500 completed applications for the plates. The bill will take effect immediately but will remain inoperative until these conditions are met, and it will expire if not fulfilled within 12 months of enactment.
