This bill authorizes the creation of woman veteran license plates in New Jersey, featuring a design that includes a silhouette of a woman veteran saluting against an American flag background, along with the words "Woman Veteran." The Chief Administrator of the New Jersey Motor Vehicle Commission (MVC) is tasked with issuing these plates upon proper application, which must include proof of veteran status and a $50 application fee, in addition to standard vehicle registration fees. An annual renewal fee of $10 will also be required. The bill establishes the Woman Veteran License Plate Fund, into which the additional fees will be deposited after covering administrative costs, with the funds allocated to organizations supporting women veterans.
Furthermore, the bill stipulates that state or public funds cannot be used for the initial costs associated with the license plate program. Instead, the New Jersey Department of Military and Veterans Affairs (DMAVA) or designated entities must contribute up to $25,000 in non-public funds to cover these costs. The MVC will not begin the program until it receives these funds and at least 500 completed applications for the plates. The bill will remain inoperative until these conditions are met and will expire if not fulfilled within 12 months of enactment.
