This bill mandates that the prosecutor of each county in New Jersey collect and report data to the Attorney General regarding firearm-related crimes that did not result in bodily injury. The information to be reported includes details such as the complaint number, date and time of the incident, location, statutory citation and degree of offenses charged, and whether the firearm was used lawfully or unlawfully. This reporting requirement applies to all criminal complaints, regardless of the outcome of the case, including whether it is prosecuted, dismissed, or downgraded.

Starting January 1 following the bill's enactment, county prosecutors are required to submit this data to the Attorney General on a quarterly basis for three years. At the conclusion of this period, the Attorney General will compile the collected information into a report for the Governor and the Legislature, which will also be published on the Department of Law and Public Safety's website. This initiative aims to enhance transparency and understanding of firearm-related incidents that do not result in injury.
