This bill amends current New Jersey law to allow certain individuals, specifically those defined as "covered persons" under Daniels Law, to use a post office box or an alternative address on their driver's licenses and identification cards issued by the New Jersey Motor Vehicle Commission. Covered persons include active, formerly active, or retired judicial officers, law enforcement officers, child protective investigators, prosecutors, and their immediate family members residing in the same household. The bill stipulates that while a street address is still required for applications and renewals, exceptions can be made for those who have had an application for redaction or nondisclosure approved or who have been determined by the chief administrator to have good cause.

The bill clarifies that both driver's licenses and identification cards must contain the street address of the applicant's residence, but allows for the use of a post office box or other contact points in specific circumstances. This change aims to enhance privacy protections for individuals who may be at risk due to their professions or personal circumstances, ensuring a consistent application of these protections across state agencies. The act is set to take effect immediately upon passage.
