The bill introduces a new "historic distillery license" aimed at enhancing the operational capabilities of distilleries listed in the New Jersey Register of Historic Places. This license allows holders to manufacture, rectify, blend, treat, and mix distilled alcoholic beverages, as well as sell their products for consumption both on and off the premises, with a limit of five liters per person for off-premises sales. Additionally, the bill permits the offering of up to three samples per calendar day for tasting purposes. The fee for obtaining this license is set at $1,000.
Furthermore, the bill amends existing laws related to alcoholic beverage licensing, specifically R.S.33:1-10, to incorporate this new category. Unlike the existing craft distillery license, which caps production at 20,000 gallons annually, the historic distillery license does not impose such a limit, providing greater flexibility for historic distilleries. This legislative change reflects a trend towards more consumer-friendly regulations in the alcoholic beverage industry, promoting greater interaction between producers and consumers while ensuring compliance with existing laws. The bill is set to take effect immediately upon passage.
