This bill amends existing law to mandate that law enforcement officers receive specific training on the identification of machine gun conversion devices as part of their ongoing education requirements. The Police Training Commission will regulate this training, which is a condition for continued employment or appointment as a law enforcement officer. The bill emphasizes that every law enforcement unit must provide reasonable opportunities for officers to complete this training.
Additionally, the bill modifies the process for submitting proof of training. Officers must submit their training documentation to their chief law enforcement officer, who will then forward it to the commission according to regulations set by the commission, replacing the previous term "proscribed" with "prescribed." This change aims to enhance the knowledge and skills of law enforcement officers in recognizing and addressing the use of machine gun conversion devices. The act will take effect six months after its enactment.
