This bill amends the New Jersey Charitable Registration and Investigation Act to exempt certain volunteer organizations from registration fees. Specifically, it introduces new legal language that states the registration requirements shall not apply to volunteer fire companies, nonprofit emergency service providers, and veteran organizations that qualify as tax-exempt under sections 501(c)(3) or 501(c)(19) of the Internal Revenue Code. These organizations must perform their duties on a volunteer basis to qualify for the exemption.

Currently, charitable organizations that raise over $10,000 in a fiscal year are required to register with the Division of Consumer Affairs and pay a registration fee. This bill aims to alleviate the financial burden on volunteer fire companies, emergency service providers, and veteran organizations by exempting them from these fees, thereby encouraging their continued service to the community without the added financial strain of registration costs. The bill will take effect on the first day of the second month after its enactment.
