This bill amends current law to require school districts in New Jersey to allow graduating students to wear a military sash or stole, in addition to a dress uniform, during their high school graduation ceremonies. The amendment specifies that students must have fulfilled all state and local requirements for receiving a high school diploma and be otherwise eligible to participate in the ceremony.
The bill also clarifies that for students wearing a dress uniform, they must have completed basic training and be active members of a branch of the United States Armed Forces. This change aims to honor and recognize the service of students who have enlisted in the military by allowing them to display their military affiliation during graduation. The act is set to take effect immediately upon passage.
