The United Border Security Act mandates that the New Jersey National Guard provide support services to the states of Arizona and Texas in their efforts to secure the southern border with Mexico. Upon a lawful request from the governors of these states, the Governor of New Jersey is required to deploy no less than 1,500 National Guard members to assist. In cases where both states make concurrent requests, the Governor will determine how to allocate the National Guard members between Arizona and Texas. The bill emphasizes New Jersey's vested interest in border security, citing the significant number of illegal aliens entering the U.S. and the associated costs to the state.
Additionally, the bill includes provisions for appropriating funds from the General Fund as deemed necessary by the Governor and the State Treasurer to support the deployment. The act will take effect immediately and will remain in force for 12 months following the first deployment or until the governors of Arizona or Texas declare that the services are no longer needed, whichever comes first.
