The United Border Security Act mandates that the New Jersey National Guard provide support services to the states of Arizona and Texas in their efforts to secure the southern border with Mexico. The bill stipulates that upon a lawful request from the Governors of Arizona or Texas, the Governor of New Jersey must deploy no fewer than 1,500 National Guard members to assist in border security operations. In cases where both states make concurrent requests, the Governor of New Jersey will determine how to allocate the National Guard members between the two states.
Additionally, the bill allows for appropriations from the General Fund as deemed necessary by the Governor and the State Treasurer to support the deployment. The act will take effect immediately and will remain in force for 12 months following the first deployment or until the Governor of Arizona or Texas declares that the services of the New Jersey National Guard are no longer needed, whichever comes first.
