This bill amends existing legislation regarding the information that must be printed on student identification cards issued by public schools and institutions of higher education in New Jersey. Specifically, it replaces the requirement to include the telephone number for the New Jersey Suicide Prevention Hopeline and crisis text line with a broader mandate to print mental health and suicide crisis resources as determined by the Commissioner of Human Services, in consultation with the Secretary of Higher Education. This change aims to ensure that students have access to a wider range of mental health support resources.

Additionally, the bill allows both public schools and institutions of higher education to provide contact information for the National Suicide Prevention Lifeline, on-campus crisis centers, or other mental health support services alongside the mandated resources. The new requirements will take effect immediately and will apply to new and replacement student identification cards issued in the first full school year or academic year following the enactment of the bill.
