This bill amends the calculation of daily benefit rates for temporary disability and family temporary disability leave in New Jersey. Specifically, it revises the method by which benefits are calculated for each day of disability. The current law, which states that benefits for each day are calculated as one-seventh of the weekly benefit amount, will be changed to a calculation based on the corresponding weekly benefit amount, reflecting the actual worth of a day used for each day of disability. Additionally, the bill establishes that the total benefits for any fractional part of a week will also be computed to the next lower multiple of $1.00 if not already a multiple thereof.

Furthermore, the bill introduces a new benefit rate structure for periods of disability and family temporary disability leave commencing on or after July 1, 2020, where individuals will receive 85% of their average weekly wage, capped at 70% of the statewide average weekly remuneration. This change aims to provide more substantial support for individuals during their time of disability, ensuring that they receive a higher percentage of their wages compared to the previous structure. The bill is set to take effect immediately upon passage.
