This bill amends the calculation of daily benefit rates for temporary disability and family temporary disability leave in New Jersey. Specifically, it revises the method by which daily benefits are determined, changing the previous calculation of
one-seventh of the weekly benefit amount to
the corresponding weekly benefit amount based on the worth of a day used for each day of disability. This adjustment aims to provide a more accurate reflection of benefits for individuals on temporary disability leave.
Additionally, the bill establishes that for periods of disability and family temporary disability leave commencing on or after July 1, 2020, the weekly benefit rate will be set at 85% of the individual's average weekly wage, with a maximum cap of 70% of the statewide average weekly remuneration. The legislation is designed to enhance the financial support available to individuals during their recovery periods, ensuring that benefits are calculated in a manner that better serves the needs of those affected by temporary disabilities. The act is set to take effect immediately upon passage.
