This bill mandates the inclusion of New Jersey's wine growing regions in the state's tourist directional signs as part of a broader marketing and advertising campaign. The Division of Travel and Tourism, in collaboration with the Departments of Transportation and Agriculture, will promote the state's wineries and viticulture attractions through outdoor displays visible to the public. The bill specifically highlights the four designated wine growing regions, which are recognized as official American Viticultural Areas (AVAs): Central Delaware Valley AVA, Warren Hills AVA, Outer Coastal Plain AVA, and Cape May Peninsula AVA.
To facilitate this initiative, the bill amends existing law to ensure that the advertising campaign encompasses the promotion of these wine regions and their respective wineries. Additionally, it outlines the process for wineries to apply for participation in the campaign, including the establishment of reasonable fees for the erection and maintenance of advertising displays. The New Jersey State Council on the Arts will also be involved in creating a visual arts competition to select original artwork for these displays, ensuring that the advertising aligns with state and federal regulations. The act is set to take effect 90 days after its enactment.
