SYNOPSIS
Requires public utilities to provide Energy Star-rated product and appliance rebates of no less than 20 percent of total cost of product or appliance.

An Act concerning rebates offered by public utilities for Energy Star-related products and appliances and supplementing P.L.2018, c.17.
 
Be It Enacted by the Senate and General Assembly of the State of New Jersey:
 
1. A public utility that administers a rebate program for the purchase of residential products and appliances bearing the federal Environmental Protection Agencys Energy Star label as part of the public utilitys energy efficiency program or peak demand reduction program, as approved by the Board of Public Utilities pursuant to section 3 of P.L.2018, c.17 (C.48:3-87.9), shall provide a rebate offered for the purchase of an Energy Star-rated product or appliance of no less than 20 percent of the total cost of the product or appliance.
 
2. This act shall take effect immediately.
 
 
STATEMENT
 
This bill requires a public utility that offers a rebate program for the purchase of residential products and appliances bearing the federal Environmental Protection Agencys Energy Star label as part of its energy efficiency program or peak demand reduction program, as approved by the Board of Public Utilities, to provide a rebate of no less than 20 percent of the total cost of the product or appliance.
