This bill mandates that school district boards of education that employ video surveillance systems with artificial intelligence capabilities must adopt a comprehensive policy governing the use of such systems. The policy must include essential information about the surveillance system, such as its benefits and challenges, the type of data collected, how the information will be utilized, and the plan for providing access to this information. Additionally, the policy requires the board to post clear signage in prominent locations within school buildings and grounds where surveillance equipment is operational.

Furthermore, the bill stipulates that the policy must align with existing laws that necessitate a memorandum of understanding between the school district and local law enforcement regarding the use of video surveillance systems capable of live streaming. It also requires that the adopted policy be distributed to the parents and guardians of students within the district, ensuring transparency and community awareness regarding the surveillance practices in place. The act is set to take effect immediately and will apply to the first full school year following its enactment.
