This bill amends current law to extend the exemption from municipal parking meter fees to honorably discharged veterans, in addition to disabled veterans and Purple Heart recipients. Under the new provisions, an honorably discharged veteran can be exempt from parking meter fees when their vehicle displays a placard issued by the New Jersey Motor Vehicle Commission (MVC), regardless of vehicle ownership. However, this exemption does not apply if the vehicle is parked in one location for more than 24 hours.

The bill also mandates that the Chief Administrator of the New Jersey MVC create necessary rules and regulations to implement these changes, including the issuance of placards for honorably discharged veterans. The current law only allows exemptions for disabled veterans and Purple Heart recipients, and it specifies that the vehicle must be parked for no longer than 24 hours to qualify for the fee exemption.
