This bill amends current law to extend the exemption from municipal parking meter fees to honorably discharged veterans, in addition to disabled veterans and Purple Heart recipients. Under the new provisions, a vehicle displaying a placard issued to an honorably discharged veteran by the New Jersey Motor Vehicle Commission will be exempt from parking meter fees when the veteran is either driving or a passenger in the vehicle. However, this exemption does not apply if the vehicle is parked in one location for more than 24 hours.

The bill also mandates that the Chief Administrator of the New Jersey Motor Vehicle Commission create necessary rules and regulations to implement these changes, including the issuance of placards for honorably discharged veterans. This legislation aims to recognize and support veterans by alleviating some of the financial burdens associated with parking fees.
