This bill amends the State rental assistance program to require the Commissioner of Community Affairs to reserve a portion of the available funds for households that are ineligible for the federal Section 8 program due to time taken off from work or community service responsibilities related to pregnancy or caring for an infant under six months old. The bill aims to provide an alternative housing support option for these households, acknowledging that federal law has limited exemptions for such situations.

In addition to this new provision, the bill maintains existing reservations of funds for senior citizens, veterans who have completed the Veterans Transitional Housing Program, and other veterans not covered under the previous categories. The inclusion of this new assistance category reflects an effort to address the unique challenges faced by families during pregnancy and early childcare, ensuring they have access to necessary rental assistance during this critical period.
