This bill mandates the establishment of a public awareness campaign focused on the risks associated with gambling and the resources available for compulsive gamblers in New Jersey. The campaign will be developed by the Director of the Division of Gaming Enforcement in consultation with the Commissioner of Health, and it must be implemented through various media outlets, including newspapers, radio, social media, and television advertisements, within 180 days of the bill's enactment. The campaign will provide essential information on the risks, potential consequences, addiction rates, and available resources for those struggling with gambling addiction.
Additionally, the bill appropriates $200,000 from the General Fund to the Division of Gaming Enforcement to support the development and implementation of this public awareness initiative. The Director is also required to report to the Governor and the Legislature on the campaign's activities and accomplishments within 24 months of the bill's effective date. This initiative aims to enhance public understanding of gambling risks and improve access to support for individuals affected by gambling addiction.
