This bill mandates the Commission on Human Trafficking to prepare a report addressing the prevention of human trafficking in anticipation of the 2026 FIFA World Cup, which will partially take place in New Jersey. The commission is tasked with evaluating existing laws, recommending legislative changes, and assessing current assistance programs to address the heightened risk of human trafficking during the event. Additionally, the commission will promote a coordinated response from public and private sectors and develop public awareness mechanisms, including the creation of signs to inform the public about the potential for trafficking.
The report must include recommendations on best practices for raising awareness, information campaigns for large events, public service announcements, the establishment of additional human trafficking hotlines, and guidelines for law enforcement responses. The commission is required to submit its findings to the Governor and Legislature within 180 days of the bill's enactment. Furthermore, the Attorney General is instructed to issue directives to law enforcement regarding the identification and response to the increased risk of human trafficking during the World Cup.
