This bill amends current law to require members of the Sexual Assault Response Team to receive specialized training on interacting with victims who have developmental disabilities. The program coordinator, who is appointed by the county prosecutor, is responsible for developing and implementing a standardized education and training program for the team. This program will now include instruction on the unique needs and considerations when working with victims with developmental disabilities, in addition to existing training topics such as the psychological effects of sexual assault and the handling of forensic evidence.

The bill emphasizes the importance of a coordinated, multi-disciplinary response to sexual assault cases and aims to enhance the sensitivity and effectiveness of the Sexual Assault Response Team in addressing the needs of all victims, particularly those with developmental disabilities. The changes will take effect on the first day of the fourth month after the bill's enactment.
