This bill mandates that various health insurance contracts in New Jersey, including hospital service corporation contracts, medical service corporation contracts, health service corporation contracts, individual and group health insurance policies, health benefits plans, and health maintenance organization contracts, must cover the medical expenses associated with the purchase of diapers when deemed medically necessary by a covered person's pediatrician or medical doctor. The coverage must be provided without any prior authorization or other utilization management requirements, ensuring that individuals who require diapers for medical reasons can access them without additional barriers.
The bill also stipulates that these provisions apply to contracts and policies delivered, issued, executed, or renewed in the state on or after the effective date of the act, which is set to take effect 90 days following its enactment. This legislation aims to address the needs of individuals, particularly those with genetic or medical conditions that necessitate the use of diapers beyond early childhood, thereby ensuring that necessary medical supplies are covered by insurance.
