This bill mandates the Department of Military and Veterans Affairs (DMVA) to establish and maintain a comprehensive emergency hotline for veterans memorial homes. The hotline will be prominently advertised within the homes and on the department's website, ensuring accessibility for residents, staff, and visitors. It is designed to facilitate the reporting of various emergencies, including suspected abuse, self-harm, suicide, neglect, exploitation, criminal acts, significant injuries or deaths, financial matters, and the evacuation of patients or residents from the facility.
Additionally, the bill specifies that the emergency hotline should utilize the number 555, if available, as its emergency response number. This initiative aims to enhance the safety and well-being of individuals within the veterans memorial homes by providing a direct and efficient means of reporting critical incidents. The act is set to take effect immediately upon passage.
