The bill specifies that the Chief Administrator of the New Jersey Motor Vehicle Commission will oversee the issuance of these plates, which feature a Maltese Cross and the letters "F.D." for firefighters, and a design approved for first aid or rescue squad members.

Additionally, the bill clarifies that applicants must provide proof of their current membership in a fire department or first aid/rescue squad to qualify for the special plate. It also mandates that any individual who resigns or is terminated from their association with these organizations must return the special plate to the commission within 15 days. The bill is set to take effect immediately upon passage.
