This bill mandates the Commissioner of Human Services, in collaboration with the Commissioner of Health, to create a public awareness campaign focused on doulas. The campaign is required to inform the public about the role of doulas in supporting individuals throughout the pregnancy process, the services they provide, and the evidence-based benefits associated with those services. Additionally, it will highlight any free or low-cost resources available in New Jersey that relate to doula services or aim to enhance access to such services.
To ensure broad accessibility, the bill stipulates that the campaign must include the development of printed and electronic educational materials in the ten most commonly spoken languages in the state. These materials will be made available for download on the Department of Human Services' website and distributed through various local entities, including health agencies, clinics, reproductive health service providers, and community outreach programs. The act is set to take effect immediately upon passage.
