This bill amends N.J.S.18A:62-25 to extend eligibility for tuition benefits to the dependents of members of the United States Armed Forces who died while on active duty. Previously, only the child or surviving spouse of a member of the New Jersey National Guard who was killed in the line of duty was eligible for tuition-free attendance at public institutions of higher education. The new language specifies that dependents of any member of the Armed Forces of the United States who died while on active duty are now included in this benefit.

Additionally, the bill introduces a new provision that grants eligible students a monetary award equal to 10 percent of the cost of tuition at their enrolled public institution. This award is intended to assist with non-tuition education costs, such as housing, dining, fees, or supplies. The act is set to take effect immediately and will apply to the first full academic year following its enactment.
