The bill establishes the Bring Veterans to New Jersey Program within the Department of Military and Veterans' Affairs, aimed at assisting New Jersey employers in recruiting qualified veterans by providing relocation assistance. The program will be administered by a contracted nonprofit organization, and participating employers will agree to offer relocation assistance for eligible expenses, which will be reimbursed by the department up to a maximum of $5,000. To qualify for this assistance, veterans must relocate from another state to New Jersey for employment with a participating employer and maintain that employment for at least 12 months.
Additionally, if a veteran does not remain employed for the required duration, they must reimburse the employer for the relocation assistance, which the employer will then reimburse to the department. However, provisions are included for partial or total forgiveness of this reimbursement in cases where the termination is not the veteran's fault. Veterans must create a profile with the administering nonprofit and document eligible expenses after accepting a position to receive reimbursement. The Adjutant General is authorized to adopt necessary rules and regulations to implement the program, which will take effect 180 days after enactment.
