This bill designates September 11 of each year as "September 11 Remembrance Day" in New Jersey, honoring the memory of those who lost their lives in the terrorist attacks on September 11, 2001, and recognizing the bravery of police officers, firefighters, emergency services personnel, and citizens who risked their lives to assist victims. The bill encourages local governments and patriotic organizations to hold public ceremonies to commemorate the contributions of these heroes and to read the names of local victims. Additionally, it mandates that all American and State flags in New Jersey be flown at half-staff on this day.
Furthermore, the bill requires that students and staff in public schools observe a one-minute period of silence at 10 A.M. on September 11 each year, serving as a reminder of the sacrifices made for freedom. If September 11 falls on a weekend or holiday, the observance will take place on the closest school day. The act is set to take effect immediately upon passage.
