This bill amends current law to exempt certain veterans from the requirement to complete the field or live-fire range portion of the gun safety course necessary for obtaining a firearm hunting license in New Jersey. Specifically, it allows veterans to receive the required certificate without completing this portion of the course, provided they can present proof of service and honorable discharge to the Division of Fish and Wildlife.
Additionally, the bill defines "veteran" to include any resident of New Jersey who has been honorably discharged from active military service in the Armed Forces or reserves, as well as honorably discharged members of the American Merchant Marine who served during World War II and are eligible for federal veterans' benefits. This change aims to recognize the service of veterans and streamline the process for them to obtain hunting licenses.
