This bill amends existing labor laws in New Jersey to establish specific working hours for minors employed as professional athletes. It allows minors aged 14 and 15 to work after 11 p.m. and into the early morning hours, provided that their work is a continuation of a shift that began before 11 p.m. This employment requires a special written permit from the minor's parents or legal guardian, detailing the hours they are allowed to work. However, it stipulates that no minor can work after 3 a.m. or before 6 a.m. on days preceding a school day.

Additionally, the bill maintains existing restrictions on working hours for minors under 16 and introduces provisions for minors aged 16 to 18, allowing them to work up to 50 hours in a week and 10 hours in a day during the summer months. The bill also clarifies that these regulations do not apply to minors working at summer camps, conferences, or retreats operated by nonprofit or religious organizations, unless the work is primarily maintenance or food service. The changes aim to provide flexibility for young athletes while ensuring their work hours remain within reasonable limits.
