This bill mandates the New Jersey Turnpike Authority (NJTA) and the South Jersey Transportation Authority (SJTA) to create a program that waives electronic toll collection fees for qualified disabled veteran-owned businesses. To qualify for the waiver, the motor vehicles must be owned, leased, or financed by a disabled veteran, used for a business that generates at least $2,500 in revenue, is certified and operates within the state, is registered in New Jersey, and has an active New Jersey electronic toll collection system account.
The bill defines a "disabled veteran" as a resident certified by the federal Department of Veterans Affairs with a service-connected disability rating of at least ten percent. Additionally, a "disabled veteran owned business" is described as one that is independently owned and operated, has its principal place of business in New Jersey, and is at least 51% owned and controlled by disabled veterans. The act is set to take effect 90 days after its enactment.
