This bill mandates the Department of Labor and Workforce Development (DOLWD), in collaboration with the Departments of Health and Human Services, to launch a multimedia advertising campaign aimed at attracting candidates to health care professions. The campaign will highlight the rewarding nature of careers in health care and promote available financial support options such as scholarships and student loan redemption programs. It will utilize various media platforms, including digital outlets, television, radio, and print, to reach a broad audience. Additionally, the DOLWD is tasked with creating targeted advertising to recruit health care professionals from underrepresented racial groups and to fill high-demand fields identified by the Commissioner of Labor and Workforce Development.
To support the implementation of this initiative, the bill appropriates $1 million to the DOLWD, which will be funded through the federal American Rescue Plan (ARP) Act. The aim of this funding is to address the workforce shortages in the health care sector that have been exacerbated by the COVID-19 pandemic. The bill is set to take effect immediately upon passage.
