The resolution permanently designates January 18th as Alexandra Alex Scott Day in New Jersey to honor the legacy of Alexandra "Alex" Scott, who was diagnosed with neuroblastoma at a young age and became an inspiring figure in the fight against childhood cancer. After undergoing treatment, Alex initiated a lemonade stand to raise funds for her doctors and other children battling cancer, which eventually grew into a global movement. By the time of her passing at age eight, her efforts had raised over one million dollars for childhood cancer research, leading to the establishment of the Alex's Lemonade Stand Foundation by her parents in 2005.
The resolution aims to raise public awareness about childhood cancer and commemorate Alex's birthday while celebrating her enduring impact through the foundation's ongoing work. It requests the Governor to issue an annual proclamation recognizing this day and encourages public officials and citizens to observe it with appropriate activities and programs. The resolution will take effect immediately upon passage.
