The bill establishes the Student Mental Health Task Force in New Jersey, aimed at addressing the mental health needs of students, including issues such as depression, anxiety, and trauma. The task force will consist of 17 members, including various state commissioners and public members with expertise in mental health and education, appointed by legislative leaders and the Governor. The task force is tasked with examining available resources for student mental health, developing recommendations for access to mental health care programs, and ensuring that students can meet their educational goals.

Additionally, the task force will survey the availability of mental health treatment services across counties and regions, evaluate existing counseling programs, and explore funding needs for public schools to enhance mental health support. It will also study successful mental health initiatives from other states and consult with parents and educators during its work. A final report with findings and recommendations is to be submitted to the Governor and Legislature within one year of the task force's organization, after which the task force will dissolve 30 days later.
