This bill amends existing law to exempt disabled veterans and Purple Heart recipients from municipal parking meter fees when their vehicle displays a special license plate or placard issued by the New Jersey Motor Vehicle Commission (MVC). The previous requirement that the vehicle must be owned by the disabled veteran or Purple Heart recipient has been removed, allowing the exemption to apply regardless of vehicle ownership. However, the exemption will not apply if the vehicle is parked in one location for more than 24 hours.

Additionally, the bill mandates that the Chief Administrator of the New Jersey Motor Vehicle Commission will establish rules and regulations necessary to implement these provisions, including the issuance of the special placards for disabled veterans and Purple Heart recipients. This legislation aims to provide greater accessibility and support for veterans and recipients while ensuring that the parking regulations are still enforced. The act is set to take effect immediately upon passage.
