This bill amends the eligibility requirements for reimbursement from the Emergency Medical Technician Training Fund in New Jersey. It allows any certified agency, organization, or entity to receive reimbursement for unreimbursed costs associated with training and certifying volunteer emergency medical technicians (EMTs), regardless of whether the ambulance or rescue squad charges for their services. The bill prioritizes reimbursement for initial EMT training and certification classes, as well as refresher recertification classes. Additionally, it mandates that reimbursements be promptly paid upon receipt of a qualifying application.
Furthermore, the bill stipulates that the head of the ambulance, first aid, and rescue squad will determine if an EMT is a volunteer in good standing, provided they complete at least one service call per month during their initial three-year certification period. It also defines a volunteer EMT as one who provides basic life support services without any form of financial compensation. If an EMT ceases to be a volunteer in good standing, the squad head is required to seek reimbursement from the EMT for any funds disbursed for their training during that period, with the Department of Health overseeing the collection of these funds.
