The new provision permits the addition of green lights, but they can only be activated when the vehicle is engaged in operations that pose a traffic hazard requiring unusual care from other drivers. Additionally, the vehicle must still display the required amber lights during these operations.

The bill also updates the language regarding the approval authority for warning lights, changing references from the "Director of the Division of Motor Vehicles" to the "Chief Administrator of the New Jersey Motor Vehicle Commission." Furthermore, it clarifies the conditions under which vehicles may display lights of different colors, including the stipulation that vehicles authorized to display green lights must comply with the new regulations. The act is set to take effect immediately upon passage.
