This bill amends the existing volunteer tuition credit program in New Jersey to increase the tuition credit amounts available to active members of volunteer fire companies and volunteer first aid or rescue squads, as well as their dependent children and spouses. The maximum tuition credit allowed has been raised from $2,400 to $5,000, and the annual credit for each year of service has increased from $600 to $1,250. These changes are contingent upon the individual agreeing to serve a minimum of four years with the volunteer organization and are subject to the availability of classroom space and the presence of tuition-paying students.

The updated provisions ensure that volunteers and their families receive greater financial support for postsecondary education, reflecting the state's commitment to recognizing the contributions of these individuals. The bill is set to take effect immediately upon passage.
